Projects

Update October 2023

With the support of Terrama and our customers, we have been able to carry out and support several notable Amazon Watch projects in the Amazon Basin region and around the world in recent months. These projects highlight the positive impact that solidarity and community awareness have had. Below, we organize the projects according to the results achieved:

Protection of the Brazilian Amazon

Thanks to our customers, we were able to support, in partnership with Amazon Watch, initiatives that played a fundamental role in protecting the Brazilian Amazon. Here are some of the notable results:

1. Historic Victory in Yasuní, Ecuador:
- Ecuadorians voted to keep around 1.5 billion barrels of oil underground in the Yasuní National Park. This is a huge victory towards a fossil fuel-free future.

2. Demarcation of Indigenous Lands in Brazil:
- We reinforced the effort to demarcate more than 800,000 hectares of indigenous lands in Brazil in 2023, thanks to the work of indigenous leadership and partnerships. This ensured the preservation of these lands and the protection of indigenous ways of life.

3. Overthrow of the Temporal Framework Thesis:
- We supported the movement that got the Brazilian Supreme Court to declare the controversial legal thesis of the Marco Temporal unconstitutional, thus preserving indigenous rights and the integrity of their lands.

4. Veto PL2903:
- Our contributions were instrumental in pressuring President Lula to veto crucial parts of bill PL2903, which aimed to weaken indigenous rights in Brazil.

Protection of Biodiversity and Indigenous Rights

These projects contributed to the preservation of biodiversity in the Amazon, as well as to the defense of indigenous rights:

1. Solidarity with Yasunidos:
- Amazon Watch, with support from Terrama, was the first international ally to provide solidarity funding to the local community-led Yasunidos group in the campaign for the historic vote in Yasuní.

2. Global Pressure for Energy Transition:
- We were able to join forces with indigenous leaders and activists from around the world to demand a fair and rapid transition to clean energy and away from fossil fuels.

3. Indigenous Leadership in the Brazilian Government:
- We contributed to strengthening indigenous leadership in the Brazilian government, which played a fundamental role in defending indigenous rights and holding global leaders and industries accountable.

These projects clearly demonstrate how the support of our customers - one t-shirt at a time - has been fundamental to protecting the Amazon, biodiversity and indigenous rights. We continue to work tirelessly to achieve further progress and drive positive change on a global scale.

Our thanks to all our customers for being part of this important movement to protect our planet.
